Haven't got a university or college place yet? Don't panic! If you’ve already applied through UCAS, you can still get a place on a course through UCAS's Clearing system.

Applying through Clearing can be a very daunting process. PFL can help you with the application process.

What is Clearing?

As an International student, you may be wondering what UCAS Clearing is and whether it is relevant to you. Clearing is a way for universities to fill any spaces they have. It gives you another chance of finding a university place, perhaps if you didn't get the grades you needed to get into your first choice university or if you’re applying late in the year.

Clearing is the process used by UCAS and UK Universities and colleges, between July and September, to match any course vacancies which have not yet been filled to students who are still searching for a suitable course offer. If you are flexible and you have reasonable exam results, there is still a good chance you will find another course through Clearing.

Am I eligible for Clearing?

The easiest way to find out if you can enter Clearing is to log into the UCAS Track System. (Your login details for Track will be in the welcome pack which was sent to you when you made your original application.)

If Clearing is available to you, an option to 'Add Clearing Choice' will show on your Track 'choices' screen.

You can find out more about eligibility criteria by clicking your country UCAS link below.

How do I apply through Clearing?

Once you have your exam results, PFL will see which courses are available through Clearing, then telephone the universities directly to apply on your behalf.

When can I apply through Clearing?

You can apply through clearing from July until 30 September 2012.

I haven't applied through UCAS this year - can I still enter Clearing?

You must complete a UCAS application before you can apply through Clearing. UCAS will process applications for courses starting in 2012 received up until 20 September 2012. After this date, you will need to contact the universities/colleges directly.

Do I have to choose the same subjects as on my original application form?

No. You may apply to any university or college for any course you are interested in.

Haven’t applied yet or want to apply directly?

No worries. Many UK institutions accept direct applications even late in to the year.  Even if you have applied via the UCAS system a number of our partners will be happy to talk to you about applying to their institution and they will assist with your application. Contact any of our staff in your country to find out your options

What if I'm away or on holiday during Clearing?

It's really best to make sure you are not away so you can make the telephone calls yourself - universities will not want to speak to your parents or anyone else.

Vacancies get filled very quickly, so if you leave it too late the course you want may have gone to somebody else.
